June-July 2019 Summer Reading Program – A Universe of Stories During regular hours
Description: (Ages 3-17) Now that school’s out, take time to read those books you’ve been wanting to read and win prizes at the same time. Sign up for our reading program and explore new worlds and ideas. The library staff will get you started.
Saturday, June 15, 1 PM – 4 PM Stump Dodger Trail Fun Day Description: (All ages) Come celebrate the trail at the Stump Dodger Trail Fun Day with food, games, prizes, a walk/run/ride, and other activities. Also featured will be a self-guided Story Walk on the blacktop trail along the Kickapoo River. After the Trail Fun Day, the Story Walk will be installed behind the library overlooking the slough on Monday, June 17 and will be there for the rest of the summer.
Tuesday, June 18, 10:00 AM at NC School ‘Giant Steps – Apollo Moon Landing’ Astronomy Program*
Description: (All ages) 2019 is the 50th anniversary of the Apollo Moon Landing; join us to hear the story of how humans first journeyed to another world and what they discovered there. This event is in collaboration with North Crawford Schools and the Soldiers Grove Public Library. You do not need to be in summer school to attend this event!
Monday, July 1 – Saturday, July 6 Airplane Week During regular hours
Description: (All ages) The library is going to be home to two of Rob Ghormley’s awesome wooden airplane models. They’ll be ‘flying’ in the library starting in June. We will also be featuring model airplanes in our window display. Come and make cool paper airplanes and mini-parachutes, and look for books on aviation while helping us welcome our new airplanes.
Monday, July 8 – Saturday, July 13 Ice Chalk Week During regular hours Description: (ages 3-17) Help us make a galaxy of colors on the sidewalk circle behind the library. We’ll give you a smock and a bag of ice chalk and let you have fun making stars, moons, comets, or writing your initials. Ice chalk is made from corn starch, liquid watercolor and water and is really a lot of messy, colorful fun – especially on a hot summer day.
Monday, July 15 – August Makerspace: Electronics During regular hours Description: (Ages 5-17) Experiment with electronics and build lots of fun projects with our electronics kits. We have four kits for you to play with and staff to assist you. Children of all ages will enjoy learning about electronics in this drop-in program.
Tuesday, July 23, 10:00 AM Dan Nederlo: Critter Man* At the Soldiers Grove Public Library
Description: (All ages) We’re happy to partner with the Soldiers Grove PL on this popular program. Dan and his animal friends are excited for all the adventurers out there who want to have some hands-on fun with small mammals, reptiles, and amphibians.
Wednesday, July 24, 10:00 – 11:30 AM Outer Space Mission Description: (ages 4-8) Join the library’s space program for an outer space mission. We’ll have fun pretending to blast off in our space ships and tour the inner solar system before reaching our destination. When we find that our supplies have been lost we’ll build what we need out of legos.
Tuesday, July 30, 4:30-5:15 PM Music & Magic in the Polkaverse* Description: (All ages) Fitting with the summer program theme ‘A Universe of Stories,’ join us for some dancing and magic fun with accordionist Mike Schneider of Clinton, WI. His show includes great music, magic, comedy, and get-up-and-go fun for all ages.
